Nirali Shah Studio replaced nine Drive folders with one link

Nirali Shah used to build separate folders for each side of the family and every friend group. On SpotMe, one guest link does that sorting, and the bride’s family no longer forwards photos for weeks.

Before SpotMe

Surat weddings are big. Nirali’s studio regularly covers receptions with 1,000 to 1,200 guests, and families expect every relative to get their photos.

Her old system was folders. One for the bride’s side, one for the groom’s side, one for college friends, office colleagues, the NRI cousins, the kids. Nine folders on a typical wedding, each built by hand by her editor, Deep, over two or three days.

“The folders were never right. Someone’s chachi would be in the groom’s side folder because she was standing there in the group photo, and then she wouldn’t find herself in the bride’s side folder where she expected to be.”

The real cost showed up after delivery. The bride’s mother would spend weeks forwarding photos to relatives who couldn’t find theirs, and every one of those forwards was a compressed WhatsApp copy. Nirali’s work was travelling around Surat looking worse than it should.

Making the switch

Nirali was sceptical about face matching on Surati weddings, where half the guests wear heavy jewellery and the lighting at receptions is mostly stage wash and fairy lights. She asked us to run one of her past weddings through SpotMe before she paid for anything.

Deep did the first upload: 7,400 photos in folders by function, from the studio’s office connection. It took most of an evening. The upload dropped twice when the building’s internet went down and carried on both times without re-sending anything.

The learning curve was mostly about the couple. Nirali had to explain that the master link is for the couple only, because anyone holding it sees the whole wedding. She now sends it on a direct message to the bride and groom, never to a group.

“I checked the bride’s father’s gallery myself. Side profiles at the pheras, half his face behind a garland. It found him.”

What changed

Every wedding now gets two links. The couple’s link has the full event and a people view, so the bride can tap her nani’s face and see every photo she is in. The guest link replaces all nine folders.

Deep has his evenings back. He spends the time on album design, which the studio can charge for, instead of folder building, which it couldn’t.

Across this season the studio delivered 26 weddings and about 4,100 guests verified their numbers and opened their galleries. Nirali uses the guest list for follow-ups after Diwali, when engagement season starts.

The change she mentions most is the bride’s mother. At a wedding in Vesu, the mother told Nirali it was the first family wedding where she didn’t have to forward a single photo.

“That one sentence is now my sales pitch. Every mother in Surat understands it immediately.”

“Families here judge you on the week after the wedding as much as the wedding itself. If relatives are calling the bride’s mother for photos, that reflects on us. Now nobody calls anyone. They open the link and their photos are there.”
